Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD): AMD will be partnering with Mixamo for the launch of Face Plus, an advanced real-time motion capture and 3D facial animation technology for the Unity game engine. The alliance will allow developers to capture their facial expressions through standard webcams and transfer them in real time onto a 3D character using technology powered by AMD’s A-Series APUs and GPUs.
Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA): Though the company has not yet mentioned any formal plans for new products through the end of the year, observers are confident that the the graphics giant may still have a couple of surprises to bestow upon the market by the end of the year. “Rumor has it Nvidia may end the year with a bang by launching a high-end model such as the GeForce GTX 790,” says Paul Lilly. “The GTX 790 could end up being a Titan Ultra card or it could be a graphics card with dual GK110 GPUs.”
Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM): Qualcomm has responded to its rivals’ insinuations that eight-core equipped CPUs are better than Qualcomm’s own quad-core units via a clip likening mobile processing to the popular Guitar Hero franchise. Qualcomm makes the argument that faster cores will always have an advantage over more cores, since the majority of apps barely touch on more than four cores as it is. Therefore, running data through more than four cores seems superfluous when one can simply engineer a more effective core unit.
